Pen Pal Writing Tips
- Study about your penpal's country before you write your letter. The more you know, the better questions you will be able to ask.
- Remember; a penpal is someone you have never met. Please be courteous and polite in your first letters. It's better not to write or ask about personal matters (including religion and politics) until you get to know someone well.
- Write to more than one penpal. Mail service is not the same in all countries and your penpal may have moved from the address listed.
- Write about subjects that everyone understands and are interested in. Family, food, school, work, holidays etc. The more detail you include the better. People are always interested about others cultures.
- Never send anything expensive in the mail. Small gifts that can fit in an envelope are fine.
- Include an IRC (International Reply Coupon) with your letter when you write to someone who might not be able to afford Airmail postage easily. IRC's can be purchased at any post office and can be redeemed for stamps in any country.
